With businesses on the verge of either opening or closing during this wiggy time, a lot of us might be in dire need of a pedicure. I think, right now, it might just be easier to take matters into your own hands. I’ve been implementing at-home pedicures into my quarantine routine and my feet have never been happier.
With a few simple tools and some super fun versatile products, you can have a salon-quality pedicure in your own bathroom.
Prep your feet
Give yourself a quality 45 minutes or so to complete your pedicure. After all, we are not in any rush. You wouldn’t be if you were at the salon now, would you?
Remove any old nail polish first and then soak your feet in the tub with warm water and soak your feet in there for 10 minutes. For a really nice treat, add some essential oils to the water, like lavender, for a soothing aroma.
I like to have a Netflix show playing in the background that I can tune into while my feet soak or even a good book that is easy to put down.
Start the pedicure regimen
We will start the at-home pedicure regimen by clipping the toenails. You want to think short and square. This is a best practice to prevent ingrown and infections (yuck!). Refine any sharp edges with a nail file.
Give your cuticles a little love
The cuticle is probably scary in theory when it comes to an at-home pedicure regimen, but is totally simple once you do it a few times.
Use a gentle nail brush and scrub your cuticles. Apply a little oil onto the cuticle then push back your cuticles thoroughly using a cuticle pusher or an orange stick (see, versatile uses). I use Rejuveniqe oil because it has 13 botanical oils, is completely organic, and will be used in a later step during the at-home pedicure process. However, olive oil or coconut oil work just as well.
Pumice Stone it Up
Follow up this step by using a pumice stone on the bottoms of the feet. This helps buff away any hard skin that has formed around the heels or sides.
To properly use a pumice stone, wet the pumice stone and rub the stone on the wet callus in a circular motion for 2-3 minutes. This will help remove a lot of the dead skin.
Exfoliate for Baby Soft Feet
The real spa treatment comes right here. During your at-home pedicure, go the extra step and apply a Berry Scrub exfoliant to the feet, and then massage up the calf. This will remove any excess dead skin and leave your feet feeling baby soft. Follow this up by lathering your feet and calves with Rejuveniqe Oil. I’m telling you, this oil is super versatile and is used ALL over the body.
Let’s Talk Polish
If you are skipping the polish and deciding to let your toes breathe a bit, dab a little Rejuveniqe oil onto each toe nail. This works as a nourishing treatment to help hydrate, strengthen, and restore nail health!
If you are going to polish, take a little nail polish remover and wash off your toes to make sure there is no lotion or oils left behind so the nail polish will stick to the toes.
Base Coat
Grab your base coat, color, and top coat. Do not skip the base coat. It works as a protective layer between the polish and the toenail. Let’s be kind to our feet. I highly recommend the OPI Natural Nail Polish Base Coat. It is designed to seal in the color to prevent scratches and chipping. Plus it primes the nail for a longer-lasting hold on the polish. Let that sit for 2 minutes.
Color Polish
Now we can move on to color. Don’t make this harder than it needs to be. The easiest way is to star on the edge of the nail and allow the brush to spread as wide as it can. Your second swipe will overlap a bit on the first swipe but will cover the whole nail. Give yourself two minutes of drying time and apply a second coat.
Top Coat
Top coat is key to polishing off the at home epdicure process. This is what will give your toes that shiny or matte look you have been looking for!
Final Steps
This is completely optional, but really satisfying, apply the Rejuveniqe oil on to the cuticle once the nail polish has dried. Give your feet and nails a little massage.
There you have it friends. My fun and cute at-home pedicure regimen is now yours to try! I’ve loved all of these products, and like I said they have multiple uses. What fun pedicure tricks do you have? Let’s talk about them in the comments below!
