Ahh, moving. It is such a grand but sore topic. On one hand moving out for the first time can beeciting as you start a new chapter in your life, but the physical pieces of moving can be so draining. Packing boxes, lugging furniture, and loading and unloading are not exactly on my list of fun things to do.

I remember moving into my first apartment. Considering I only had what was in my bedroom to take with me, it was all coming with me. There was absolutely no way I was going to fit that in my Honda so I rented a truck from Home Depot to make my bed, desk, and dresser over. After lugging furniture up two flights of stairs, I realized I made a mistake and should’ve enlisted some help with residential moving in Las Vegas.

Deciding to move out of your parents’ house is a huge decision and I applaud you if you’re thinking of taking the plunge!

My Experience Moving Out

I decided to officially move out from my parent’s house after college and into my own apartment when I was 23 years old.

After graduating, I started working full-time, and a year later I found the job I wanted so I could finally afford all of the adult things I wanted to start my life.

It was a straightforward decision for me at the time to find my own place. I didn’t want the hassle of rommates. I like my space.

You can probably guess that the adjustment from living under my parent’s roof to actually live on my own without roommates wasn’t easy at first as it was a huge change. However, there were a few things about the move that was very helpful and I felt it was imperative to share those tips with other first-time movers, or those leaving the nest!

First time Moving Tips

1. Get a Realtor

A realtor helps homebuyers find a home and then secure the property with an executed sales contract. Realtors can also help with apartments. You tell them exactly what you are looking for, and I mean exactly, and they provide you with options, will. take you on tours, and walk you through the whole process. If you’re in the California, Nevada or Arizona area and need a realtor, my girl Cindy Cifuentes was extremely helpful, patient and knowledgeable.

2. Check the Free Section fo Craigslist

When it comes to your first move, a lot of times you do not have a lot of furniture to furnish your place. I had my bedroom set and a dining room table. Everything else was on my own. A friend of mine suggested the free section of craigslist. This is actually a goldmine sometimes. Typically people just want to get rid of their stuff and sometimes it’s brand new. If you come to pick it up, it is yours! I got a few things from this section, like my couch, dishes, and a bookshelf. It can be a cost-effective way to set your place up.

3. Budget for Moving Help

If there is one thing I have learned in life it is that some things are worth the price of convenience. Movers are definitely one of them. I didn’t have a lot of furniture to move but the little bit I did have, and moving it up to the second floor of the building was a struggle and a half. Muscle Movers LLC Las Vegas is a reliable source for residential moving and general labor. Movers can be a huge time and hassle savior.

4. Have a little extra spending money for set up fees

If you are moving out you should have savings of sorts for emergencies. If you do not, do that before you consider moving out. Unfortunately, things WILL come up and you need to be prepared. However, when it comes to setting up your apartment, unexpected expenses do occur. For example, my cable and internet bill was double what I thought it was going to be and I had to pay for them to come out and set it up. That was $120 on the first call. Squirrel away some of your fun money for adult expenses because its better to expect it and not have to pay it than the other way around.

Last but not least, try to keep calm, have fun, and don’t stress! I hope you enjoyed my tips for moving out for the first time. Living on your own will not only come with a new set of responsibilities but also a whole new set of (hopefully positive) experiences, a sense of freedom, and independence.
