The past couple of months have found many of our lives
change pretty drastically. We’re living through a worldwide pandemic that many
of us couldn’t have predicted. Rather than following our usual routines of
getting ready, facing the morning commute, heading to work, heading to the gym,
catching up with friends, seeing family and repeat, many of us are now being
encouraged to stay home for the sake of both our own and others’ health. The
spread of coronavirus and outbreak of COVID-19 has literally ended up with many
of us spending day and night inside our homes – many of us completely alone.
This is, of course, going to be pretty challenging for the majority. There are
grim statistics each day and we don’t know how long this is going to last. But
it’s important to stay positive. There are many ways you can maintain your
happiness – even in isolation! Here are a few things you might want to try out.

Maintaining a Sense of Routine

By now, many of us have fallen into the throws of a complete
lack of routine. We’re rising partway through the afternoon. Meals are all
over the place. Some of us are simply snacking rather than cooking properly. We
go to bed way too late. But this can lead to a lack of stability and feelings
of sluggishness or confusion. Instead, try to maintain some sort of routine.
Sure, you don’t have to be up at the crack of dawn. I really enjoy lying in bed
until 8:30a since I’m usually up at 6:00a. Have breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Try to fit activities into your day. Head to bed at a set time. This will
generally make you feel a lot better.
However, on the weekends, go wild! I stay up way too late or
go to bed MEGA early but that is what I normally do when my routine is
normalized anyways. This keeps me on track with my normal schedule.

Do Something Productive

Usually, through work, we’re challenged. We set goals. We
achieve them. We feel accomplished. Small wins go a long way, but sitting at
home all day can make many of us feel restless and there may be a sense of
“what’s the point?” Try to do something productive each day. You don’t have to
write the next bestselling novel. You don’t have to suddenly become
accomplished in piano. But you can do small projects and tasks that will give
you a sense of accomplishment. Start learning a language’s basics. Read part of
a book. Bake some bread. Master a cocktail with instruction from Les Mimosas.
Do a little yoga and reach a stage where you can touch your toes. Simple
ventures will bring happy outcomes.

Don’t Completely Cut Yourself Off

Sure, you can’t necessarily see everyone you might want to
face-to-face. But you don’t have to be completely isolated. We have a lot of
digital contact points you can make use of. Give a friend a call. Message a
family member to check in on them. Plan a group video chat where you can hold a quiz, have a laugh and generally enjoy yourself. There are so many ways to keep
in touch with people. Make the most of them!
These are just a few suggestions. Hopefully, at least one
will work out for you and help to boost your happiness levels! I have more
coming your way on all of these quarantine hacks! Stay tuned friends. Something
IS COMING!
