How to Make the Switch to Natural Deodorant

Natural deodorants are better for people and the planet. They’re made with natural and healthy ingredients so many trying to make the switch struggle to fully commit to how to switch to a natural deodorant.

I’ve been using natural deodorants for about three years now. I think that’s when I entered my ingredient junkie phase and turned my entire beauty cabinet all-natural. Detoxing and using a natural deodorant was one of the first steps in cleaning up my routine

How to Make the Switch to Natural Deodorant and An Armpit Detox

The skin in your armpit is super permeable, and what you put on it soaks right into your skin and into your bloodstream. That’s why aluminum, parabens, or propylene glycol are no good for your underarms. These babies will clog your pores and aren’t good to continuously have in your bloodstream as they can be toxic over time. Instead look for wholesome ingredients like coconut oil, shea butter, and tapioca starch.

I started with a few brands but felt like nothing was working. No smell was being masked and it felt like I was sweating even more! I was beginning to wonder how to switch to a natural deodorant without having all of these issues. After growing frustrated I found out you need to detox your armpits before you start to make the switch to an all-natural deodorant. No one ever tells you that part, so I am hoping I can shed some light on this for you!

How to Detox Your Armpits To Make The Switch To All Natural Deodorant

Exfoliate: We need to tear away dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. To do this you need a good nontoxic hydrating scrub to help get rid of bacteria. Your armpits are often forgotten but they need the same love and care the rest of your body needs. I use a face scrub that uses cranberry seeds instead of microbeads.

Masking: Use a 1:1:1 ratio between Bentonite Clay, Apple Cider Vinegar, and water. Mix all of those together in a small bowl and apply to your armpits. I use a face mask brush to apply my mask. It just makes it easier. Let that sit for 15 minutes. Try to keep your arms up. I usually plop on the couch, turn on a show, and leave my arms above my head. You might need to repeat this every 2 weeks for a month while you are transitioning.

Cleansing: Take a nice warm washcloth and wash off the armpit mask completely. After washing you are going to want to apply some post-care products. If you use a natural toner that is a good start. I mix my Rejuveniqe Oil – Light with some Frankincense. That makes a great toner. Apply that on your underarms to help get rid of bacteria but neutralize the area before applying your natural deodorant

Shave: Do not go and rush to shave right away, just the next time you shower would be a good time. I’m simply pointing out that you shouldn’t shave right before doing an armpit mask.

And if you still feel stinky or excessively sweaty, consider the below:

  • Drink more water to help support your body’s natural way of cleansing toxins.
  • Reduce your intake of body odor-inducing foods like sugar, spicy foods, processed foods, red meat, alcohol, and coffee.
Natural deodorants

Selecting your natural deodorant is a whole other process. I had my fair share of buy and try’s but below are a couple of my favorite natural deodorants!

Myro Natural Deoderant: A harder-working deodorant formula with plant-powered ingredients that has a shelfie-worthy reusable deodorant case. 100% natural scents that last

Natural Deodorant infused with dōTERRA Balance: It is combined with baking soda which actively protects against odor while tapioca absorbs moisture for long-lasting freshness. It also contains a proprietary blend of essential oils that provide a sense of calm and well-being to uplift your mood and boost your confidence.

NATIVE Deodorant Sensitive Skin: Native deodorants are vegan, cruelty-free, aluminum-free, baking soda-free, and infused with Glyceryl Caprylate which is derived from fatty acids of vegetable oils to help reduce odor and maintain moisturized skin.

CRYSTAL Deodorant Stick: This is a mineral-enriched deodorant that is comprised of naturally occurring mineral salt that is effective at preventing odor when used on clean skin. I.E. It is a salt stick.

Natural deodorant can seem like a bit of a chore at first and like you are sacrificing smelling fresh, but that just isn’t the case! There is a bit of a process but you have to trust it. Natural deodorant is a way to take care of your body and yourself. Your body will adapt just like mine did.
