“Thanks, it’s a rental!” If you’ve complimented an outfit of mine recently, this was probably the response you got. Your wardrobe problems are officially solved. Clothing rental subscriptions are the newest way to update your wardrobe more frequently. I started renting my clothes from Nuuly to have more options for my closet. This post is NOT sponsored (although Nuuly, if you want to, I’m your girl) so, I’m giving you the tea on Nuuly clothing rental service.
I’ve always been attracted to bold prints and bright colors. Staple pieces are not my thing so my closet has always been packed. Overloaded and still nothing to wear. Can you relate?
A few things lead me to a fashion rental subscription.
- I was clenaing out my closet and realized I had 4 great sweatshirts. Why did I need 4 grey sweatshirts?
- I paid off my student loans and found myself with some extra spending money each month.
Nuuly’s clothing rental subscription seemed like the most plausible option for my situation. I signed up with my coupon code and never looked back.

How Fashion Rental Subscriptions work
I’ve dabbled in a few of these fashion subscription rentals. I highly enjoyed Rent the Runway and Nuuly the most. It honestly came down to affordability. With Nuuly, you rent any 6 styles, every month, for $88. This includes fast, free shipping + returns. You can pause or cancel any time as well; not that I have. 😛
Nuuly is designed so you can come up with an amazing look every day—not just special occasions. This clothing rental subscription is for going all out, for just hanging out, for work, vacation, and all the good stuff that happens in between. It’s about expanding your options into the thousands—while keeping more of those $1000s in your bank account.
Download the app, and browse whenever you like. I browse whenever I want to shop online. I save everything to my closet, which is similar to your favorites. This saves me money and saves me time when I am ready to order again.
If you like the items, you can buy them, at a discount too!
In the words of Nuuly: 6 items | $88/month | 100s of brands. Rent top designers, premium denim, and vintage clothing. Here is a link for $20 off too!
The Pros
- It’s like a wardrobe refresh once a month, and for a great price. This is probably why I love it most! I hardly ever say “I have nothing to wear.” Adding/swapping 6 new pieces a month is just really fun! A lot of the pieces I rent would retail for $100+ each, giving me a high end outfit instead of a Forever 21 fashion find for $88. I know it’s not quite comparable because I’m not going to own/have them forever, but still!!!
- You get the chance to wear what you might not be able to otherwise. For example: I don’t always want to buy something like a bright $300 statement kimono that I won’t be able to wear often, but thanks to Nuuly I can own it for a month!
- You can pause or cancel anytime. Game-changer!! You aren’t stuck with a long-term commitment if you want to skip a month or opt out if its not for you.
- No worrying about laundry/dry cleaning or repairs. Spills, spots or snags? Dont even worry about it. Each piece is individually taken care of by the company. Nothing you have to worry about. They take care of this stuff, which is amazing and makes the whole thing even more hassle-free.
- Works perfectly for special occasions! Not that we have had a ton to attend lately due to COVID, but this is something to keep in mind. I don’t know about you but I love getting something new to wear to events like weddings. Nuuly makes this very attainable/reasonable!
- Sustainability! Renting / sharing clothes is much more sustainable than buying cheap clothes from fast fashion websites that will only last one season. It’s really helped me to cut back on my spending habits and get pieces I enjoy.
The Cons
- Parting with items you love can be hard. However, you do have the option to buy them outright and not send them back! You can just keep it right from the pack and buy it at a discounted price!
- As with any online shopping experience, you can’t be confident that the clothes will fit right. That said, Nuuly has a really solid review experience. I browse through others experience and pick the size that seems to be fitting others with my body type.
- The clothes aren’t necessarily brand new so they might show some wear. I have only noticed this with one or two pieces I rented, and they were minor issues like some pilling on a coat. (They wouldn’t send you a piece that was in bad condition). I don’t think it’s a big deal… I love thrift/vintage shopping and honestly this isn’t much different!
- Some might say that it would be smarter to save that $88/month, and put it towards buying an item you really love. I think it just depends on the individual and their priorities! You have to decide for yourself what’s worth it.
In doing this, I feel like I have made a conscious effort to be more sustainable with my fashion. Instead of buying the cheap Forever 21 dresses, I plan out my events and rent clothes based on that. This allows for less waste and now I am wearing higher quality fabrics.
