Summer has arrived, and you know what that means: long nights, fizz and booze, and hopefully not too many regrets the morning after. Of course, summer is also the time to show off that rockin’ bod you’ve been toning all quarantine…. Right?
I think the staple of summertime is a cold, freshly made smoothie. Freshly chopped fruit, a little kale, and some vegan protein mix can go a long way these midsummer mornings. Blenders are the key to Summer. If you don’t have one, I am going to tell you why you need one.
Healthier smoothies

Okay, whom amongst us isn’t a Jamba Juice or Tropical Smoothie fan? Seriously, though, they manage to blend the tastiest fruity concoctions that ever graced a taste bud. But it’s hard not to think about all that sugar you’re sucking down (or maybe it is, I’m not here to judge). Making your own smoothies allows you to make a healthier version of the drinks you get at these smoothie stops that pack a sugar punch. You can make your own smoothies; your own version of the Bahama Mama without all of the extra sugar. The fruit is sweet enough! With a blender, the smoothie world is your oyster. You’re controlling exactly what you put in there, so you’ll never have to guess a smoothie’s sugar content again.
Healthier, well, everything

It’s safe to assume that anything you make yourself will probably be light years healthier than anything you buy at a store or restaurant. When it comes to salad dressings, sauces, dips, and even soups, blenders will be your best friend. The other day I made pesto in my blender. Clearly, it can double as a food processor of sorts. In the mood for low-fat Thousand Island dressing? Look up that recipe and blend it, baby.
Coming from someone who used to look at a blender as a power tool, this is prime stuff. My sauces and dips have tripled in flavor because I can make what I want out of it.
Hello, coffee grinder
Coffee, amirite? What sane person gets through the day without it?. Nothing beats a morning roast made from fresh-ground coffee beans. The good news is that you don’t even have to invest in a separate coffee grinder to achieve this. Just use–you guessed it–a blender! Most blenders are multi-functional and can handle a variety of different textured foods, so stay on the lookout for a blender that can also grind up your coffee beans. Did someone say iced coffee?
Weekend breakfasts just got fluffier
Let’s take a moment to step away from all this healthy stuff, though. As fun and essential as it is, sometimes you need a fat stack of pancakes to remind you of all that’s good in life. Fortunately, you can forget about the tedious task of whipping pancake batter if you’ve got a blender on hand. Just toss all your ingredients in there (i.e., flour, sugar, butter, and pretty much anything else that is sweet and rich and holy) and blend it up in a jiff. Give your wrist a rest; you’re going to need it to lift all of your fluffy, lump-free pancakes shortly.
Okay, Jordan, we get it. The blender is the staple of summer. So, what now?
I’m not a blender expert by any means. But I really like this review of the Vitamix 5200 blender. It lists all the blender’s specs, features, and, most importantly, its price. Check out New Kitchen Life’s website for more information on this fabulous kitchen appliance.
Or, start out slow and work your way up to a fancy blender. Let’s chat in the comments below. What are your favorite items to blend together?
