According to Marie Claire: “The “you can’t wear white after Labor Day.” rules was created to separate the old money elitists from the new money group. “It [was] insiders trying to keep other people out and outsiders trying to climb in by proving they know the rules. For those who had money and could leave the city during warmer months, white was considered vacation attire.”
I say let’s break the rules and throw on our white linen suits, dresses, and Panama hats to keep the “look of leisure” for a little longer.
Why do we not wear white after labor day?
Not wearing white after Labor Day is a signal that summertime has come to a close and vacationers are packing up to head home. Although this rule makes a tad bit more sense on the East coast given their temperatures drop a bit towards the end of September, but, for us West Coasters, we still have summer for about two more months! Bring on the white swimsuits and wedges if you ask me!
Catch me celebrating and honoring the American Labor Movement in my off the shoulder white frilly top and white wedges paired with a white bikini because vacation season is not OVER unless you allow it to be. It’s 2018. Regardless of how this silly rule came to be, white is a color that can’t be worn all year round.
Gather your fellow celebrators and make a dress code that only involves whites.
Ahead are some Labor Day Looks to copy because you can do whatever you please after Labor Day.

I agree! I live in the northeast and will wear white as long as possible!
Oh good! We need more North Easterners on this trend! lol
I have to say I absolutely loved going to this place the other night. The people that work there were trying to create an optimal dinner experience while making your choices their priority. I would definitely recommend the event space San Francisco for any kind of fancy event.
