A journal brain-dump
This is my personal favorite and still counts as beginner journal prompts. If you find yourself not being able to turn your brain off, you might be in need of a good brain dump. A brain dump is an effective (and sometimes very fun) journaling exercise that takes the thoughts and worries that flood our brains on a consistent basis and gets them out on paper. Here are a few brain-dump examples to check out. You just start writing and see where your thoughts take you. This is a no judgement zone so let everything flow out of you. I often find my thoughts work faster than my pen, so do not worry about making it pretty, just worry about getting it out!
