Whether you are in a long-term committed relationship or if this is date number three, there’s nothing like sharing a meal and simply having the room to converse, engage with all sorts of ideas, and learn more about your partner. However, perhaps you’re looking to get a little deeper into your relationship where new experiences might be just what you need to spice it up. Don’t let boring dates drag a good thing down. Consider these ideas and have a much more exciting time with your beau.

Go to the zoo

How often do you, in your adult life, pre-kids, get the opportunity to go to the zoo? There’s a good chance that the answer is “not very” often. However, no matter what age you are, the sight of fantastic creatures can always be a thrilling experience, so don’t feel like you’re “too grown up.” Zoos are very popular date spots. Even better if you bring a camera with you and have fun taking all kinds of pictures of or alongside the creatures that you meet along the way.

Check out a comedy show

Try out a fun comedy show! Comedy lounges are popping up all over the place. If you have any great stand-up places near you, then make sure you take the opportunity to go see a show with your partner. Like movies, stand-up shows have the benefit of breaking the ice for you and giving you something to talk about if you’re having a drink or something to eat after. However, they have the added benefit of letting you see how well your sense of humor matches up with your partner, which is pretty crucial…

date idea in the park

Take a trip through the park

Do you have any great parks or gardens near you? Taking a walk through a park might not be the best idea for a first date with someone that you don’t know, but there are few things more romantic when you’ve been with someone for a while and trust them. Getting out amongst all that greenery, admiring the flower beds and statues, taking the moment to sit at a bench with a thermos of coffee. A fresh setting can help invigorate conversation and it also keeps you moving, so you’re engaged with something no matter what.

Enjoy the wonders of the night sky

Is there anything more romantic than stargazing together? If you’re able to get a natural view of the stars, then wrapping up warm, taking some snacks and coffee, and heading to a hill to stargaze is well worth it. However, if not, you should check out if there are any planetariums near you. If you really want to learn something, then you can listen to the presentations that they give but, really, the sight of those stars and traveling through them, artificially or not, can be pretty phenomenal.

Work together to escape

Want a little excitement for the day? A little bit of a thrill? Some roleplaying? Then what else could you have on your mind but for an escape room? These excellent attractions have been popping up in cities everywhere. The concept is simple: you have to solve riddles throughout a room, interacting with all manner of objects with the ultimate goal of unlocking the door and escaping within a set period of time. The fun comes from the setting and the story told alongside the room, as well as with the cooperation with your partner, putting your heads together to get out. Nothing makes you feel like you have more of a bond than solving a problem together, even in a game.

Explore your local art galleries

Whether you’re able to see some of the classics by world-renowned artists, to enjoy the mastery of some local craftspeople, or simply to engage with new ideas with modern art, there’s always something to talk about when you go exploring your local art galleries. This is best done with something of a casual attitude. You don’t want to pressure your partner with any expectations that they will “get” or appreciate what doesn’t come naturally to them. It’s the opportunity to expand your horizons and see something totally new.

couple cooking class

Get through a cooking class together

It’s a traditional date idea, but that doesn’t mean that it’s not a goodie. Not everyone is a master chef, but that’s the good thing about cooking classes. Everyone is going to be trying their hand at something that they’re not familiar with. Pick out a recipe you both agree on, show off your skills to your partner, or, at the very least, have a laugh if either of you ends up cooking up a disaster, and enjoy your meal afterward.

Test your need for speed

Test out your dream car! Enjoy the thrill of speeding in a car that is built for performance and try out a local driving experience. Try some of the most extreme Supercar and off-road capable machines on the planet. No prior experience or equipment is necessary. Everything you need to have a safe and thrilling experience is included. What could be better than test driving your speed demon machine?

Barcade it up

It’s something that not many of us take the opportunity to do as an adult, but arcades have been making a bit of a comeback in the form of arcade bars. Going out for a casual drink together can be a lot more fun if you’re able to go side-by-side for some of your favorite childhood games. Whether you’re kicking each other’s butts in Street Fighter or teaming up for a co-op game, it can be a great way to enjoy some laughs and get playful with your date without needing to spend too much or make a whole event out of it.

Explore a bookstore together

Want a casual daytime date that’s not too much pressure on either of you? How about you and your partner wander around a bookstore with the intention of picking out a few titles? If you’re both readers, you will see plenty to talk about as you’re browsing the titles on the shelves. Aside from picking something new to read for yourself, you should both recommended something for the other to read as well. Just don’t get too excited with the public displays of affection in the middle of the bookstore. Think of the poor staff.

Get pampered together

If you want to slow things way down, then instead of going out on some adventure or another, take a trip to a couples’ spa instead. Get indulgent, enjoying all manner of treatments dedicated to helping you feel at your very best. You can make things feel even more romantic with a couples’ massage, holding hands while a professional touch ensures that all your stresses and aches are forgotten. You will feel like a million bucks at the end of it.

If you’re having trouble making dinner and a movie engaging, it’s not a fault with your or the relationship. We all need a little stimulation from time to time, and new experiences can be just the thing to kick things back into a fun and exciting gear. Of course, if you’re stuck in quarantine, that will affect your options as well, so be sure to find the appropriate options for those moments, too.
