We all know somebody in our life that seems to have perfectly clear skin, all day, every day.
What’s their secret?
Well, for some, it’s pure genetics. They won the biological lottery and no amount of fast-food is ever going to give them blemishes. But for others, it’s not that simple. They have a strategy and they apply it.
In this post, I’m diving into some trade secrets and uncovering what it is that these people are actually doing that makes their skin look so darn good.
Use Retinol or a Retinol Alternative
Have you heard about retinol? It’s probably the biggest talking point in the skincare world right now.
Retinol is just the scientific name for vitamin A.
What makes it so effective? The reason retinol is so effective comes down to how the skin uses vitamin A. Have you ever noticed that people who eat a lot of veggies always seem to have bright and healthy-looking skin?
That’s no accident. It all comes down to how their bodies are using the vitamin-A-like compounds in their diet. It turns out that beta-carotene from sweet potatoes and kale actually becomes integrated with the dermis itself, providing healthy coloration. What’s more, it acts as a natural SPF, protecting your skin from the sun, just like regular sunscreen.
Adding retinol or a retinol vegan alternative (Bakcuhiol) is easy. Apply it after any of your serums and let it do its magic. Specifically, reduce fine lines and wrinkles. YAY anti-aging.
Change Your Foundation
The next step is to change your foundation to one that won’t leave you with breakouts. You want a product that allows your skin to breathe. If it can’t, then your pores will become clogged with sebum and it’ll start producing annoying acne.
This foundation shop here provides a good example of the kind of makeup you should choose. You want something that provides great coverage but also sits lightly on the face.
I used to use Maybelline New York Fit Me Dewy but recently switched to Bounce Liquid Whip Long Wear Foundation. I’ve noticed a way better difference in my skin. It is not as oily of a foundation which reduces clogging pores.
Remove Your Makeup Before You Cleanse
Wiping your face off with a makeup wipe is no cleaning your face. Even makeup wipes don’t do a good enough job anymore. With makeup trends on the rise, you need a good makeup removing balm in order to get all of that product off.
Makeup wipes tend to be drying and strip your face of natural oils. Makeup Balms are an oil substance that melts everything off your face, reducing your pulling and rubbing of the skin and keeping all of your natural oils intact. This reduces wrinkles in the future, friends!
Invest in Beauty-Tech
People with super clear skin understand that their best weapon against blemishes is cleansers. This helps extract all the dirt in their pores to prevent breakouts in the future.
Take your cleanser to the next level with a Foreo! Foreo’s are a deep cleansing tool that provides 800 pulsations per minute. They go deep to remove 99.5% of dirt, oil, sweat, and dead skin cells.
Upgrade your face washing game with this tool and you’ll notice a significant difference in how clean your face comes out.
Don’t Touch Your Face
I CAN’T STRESS THIS ENOUGH. Think about it like this, dentists will often recommend that people don’t touch swollen gums with their fingers. The reason is that bacteria on your hands makes its way into the damaged tissue, causing further (and often worse) infections – not what you want.
The same principle applies to your face. It can be tempting to touch it sometimes, but you mustn’t. Your facial skin has its own microbiome, like your stomach. When you touch your face, you disrupt it, and that can lead to breakouts.
Wash your hands frequently and really try not to lean your face into your hands as much as possible.
Eliminate Dry Skin
Lastly, you need to take steps to eliminate your dry skin. The best approach here is to exfoliate and moisturize. This Berry Scrub is an exfoliant as well hydrating. This wont strip your face of its natural oils either. It keeps your oils intact but exfoliates the top layer of skin. Formulated with natural fruit acids (AHAs), naturally exfoliating granulated sugar extracts, and anti-aging cranberry and bay berry seeds to polish skin and reveal a smooth, healthy-looking complexion. This fresh and modern multi-tasker sneaks in much needed me-time in under 5 minutes to refine and exfoliate.
Follow up your exfoliant with a heavy overnight moisturizer to seal in all that goodness. I use the Night Haven. It is a luxurious night repair cream that melts into the skin, providing rich nourishment and intense hydration.
