Contrary to popular belief you CAN travel during a pandemic. Let’s be smart and safe about it though, friends. I’ve flown a few times since the coronavirus pandemic started up so, here are a few tips I have for traveling around the COVID-19 pandemic.
I have gathered a slight packing list of things you will need to bring with you in order to make your time in the airport and in the air as comfortable as possible, along with a few tricks to help calm the nerves.
Anxiety is definitely heightened during these times. First, let me say, that is totally normal. You are allowed to feel nervous and stressed, but don’t let the depths of the coronavirus get the best of your trip. Read about my experience traveling during a pandemic here.
Let’s get you to your destinaiton, but keep you healthy in the mean time.
1. Prep your immune system
All I can say is, do not fail your immune system. Prior to traveling, you should be strengthening your immune system by taking 1000mg of Vitamin C and 50mg of Zinc daily. These are common Covid-19 supplements to help you fight off any infections or viruses.
Alongside of that, prior to getting on the plane take a support a healthy immune system with a dōTERRA On Guard® Protecting Throat Drops. These drops help strengthen the body’s defenses and can be a potent addition to a defensive health strategy against seasonal and environmental threats. That is just my personal preference but you can always supplement with something else high in Vitamin C like Emergen-C.
2. Bring Multi-surface Disinfecting Wipes
These babies come in handy throughout your entire airport experience. The main surfaces I wipe down are my bags after they ravel through security, the seat I am sitting in on the plane (the whole row actually), and my luggage when I pick it up from the carousel.
Just be wary of what you’re touching, and what your stuff is touching. Germs live 5x longer on metal surfaces, so be super mindful about those areas.
If you can’t find the travel pack of disinfecting wipes, because they are still a pretty hoarded item, take your big pack and put 10 in a Ziploc bag. It will keep them just as fresh!

3. Pack Back-Up Masks
Whether one falls out of your bag, or you drop it on the floor, DO NOT GO BACK FOR IT. The 5-second-rule does not apply in the middle of LAX, friends. The number of masks I saw on the floor of TSA security told me that you always need to have multiple with you. Keep one in each bag you bring and bring two in your carry on/purse in case you have to leave a soldier behind.
A good mask tip is to bring a spray bottle mixed with water and Eucalyptus or Peppermint. Spray this on your mask and you won’t be breathing in your hot breath throughout the entire plane ride. Make sure your bottle is under 3oz or less like this one!
4. Read All of the Policies
If there is one thing I could give advice on when it comes to traveling during a pandemic it would be to follow policy. Following the rules of all the pieces to get you to your destination will make a more seamless trip for you in the end. Your airline will send you multiple emails with their new policies. Read them. I know a lot of us assume we need to wear a mask and maintain our distance from one another but look to see if there is anything else you need to be aware of.
Some ride share drivers are required to drive with the windows down in certain cities, some you cannot sit in the front seat, or their is a passenger limit. Look into all of those rules and make sure you’re following them. Do not make your flight attendant or the driver the villian because they want to follow policy and you forgot to make your self knowledgeable of the rules while traveling during Covid-19.
5. Pack Hand Sanitizer in Every Bag
Pretty much where ever your mask is, hand sanitizer should be right next to it. These babies get lost too so always bring extra. Once you run out of a mini container, don’t throw it out. Refill it! The little sanitizers are really scarce right now and they are so convenient to keep on your person.
6. Make Polite Requests
Anxiety is at an all time high. I think that needs to be at the forefront of all of our minds when traveling. You might be anxious about traveling or completely calm about the situation, but the people around you might feel the opposite way. Now, more than ever, it is important to be polite and remain calm. Please be mindful of those that have to work in the travel industry because they are deemed essential. Without them, you wouldn’t be going to your destination anyways. We are all dealing with a pandemic at the moment. It is easy for us to forget that. Please be kind.
