Many of us are absolute coffee addicts. We need a cup to get going in
the morning, and we look forward to energy-boosting coffee breaks throughout
the day. But, tea is becoming an increasingly popular alternative when it comes
to hot drinks. I know, now that it’s getting hot it makes TOTAL sense for me to
be talking about hot beverages, right?
There are so many types of teas and ways to make it. From instant tea bags, to loose-leaf, herbal, red, black and green to infused, tea-based cocktails and soothing chamomile; tea is lovely. There’s something fantastic about curling up after a hard day with a hot cup of tea and a good book. Such a cliché set up but that is precisely where most of our minds wander to when we think of hot tea.
Tea has a lot of benefits that are so underrated. Coffee is great but, in my opinion, tea is SO much better.
It’s Nice
Nice is an incredibly boring word. But, in a world where there is always so much bad happening, where the news is full of stories of hate, destruction, and unrest, nice is sometimes just what we need. Sitting down after a hard morning with a relaxing cup of tea is a beautiful way to refresh. Sit out on your patio and set your intentions for the day, or take a look through Daily Cup of JoJo. Shameless promo. Seizing these moments can make a big difference to your overall happiness.
It’s Healthy
Drinking tea is, of course, better than drinking alcohol or sugar-laced fizzy drinks, so in drinking it, you are making a healthier choice straight away. Aside from that, it is healthy in its own right. Red tea, or rooibos, which you can find out more about at teatimesage.com, is caffeine free, and very low in tannins, making it much healthier than black tea (but as nice). It’s also thought to help with stomach pains and cramps, headaches, hypertension, allergy symptoms, insomnia, and asthma. Honestly, red teas are total woman teas. It soothes almost every cramp and attitude mother nature could throw at ya. It’s even thought that it could help with more severe conditions such as cancer. This is because its filled with powerful antioxidants like polyphenols and catechins, and also high in calcium and magnesium. That’s just one type of tea that provides all of those perks.
It Can Help With Weight-Loss
Many of us struggle with our weight or want to lose a few pounds from time to time. Can I get an AMEN?! Tea can help with this. We often eat because we’re bored or stressed out and need something sweet to comfort us. We usually choose one of our favorite sugary snacks or crackers if you’re a carb whore like myself. Have a cup of tea, without sugar, instead. It can give you a significant energy boost if you start to get tired during the day, reducing your need for snacks.
It Lowers Your Blood Pressure
Some studies have shown that drinking 3 or more cups of black tea a day can significantly lower your blood pressure, making you less likely to suffer from a stroke or heart attack. The reasons for this aren’t clear, but it could merely be that sitting down and relaxing for a few minutes several times a day lowers your stress levels, gives you a break and helps you to find solutions to your problems, without getting worked up. Now, I’m only 24 and sometimes I think it is kind of silly for me to be thinking about such drastic medical conditions but, prevention is the key to a healthy lifestyle.
It’s Cheaper!
I know I’ve been talking about the actual health benefits of tea, but when it comes down to it, tea is WAY cheaper than coffee. Especially if you’re a bougie coffee drinker like me when you need flavors, sauces, and creamers. I end up spending $5 by the end of it all. Tea is legitimately $1.82ish at any coffee shop. Or you can get an entire variety pack for right around $10. Those packs can sometimes make $30 cups of tea. Put your money where your mouth is.
