All right meal preppers, Pinterest recipe finders, moms galore and functioning adults, this post is for you. Cookware. It’s something all us adults use at some point; and if you haven’t, use this as your revelation moment that you cannot survive on crackers and hummus for dinner daily. I know from experience.
For as much as people use cookware to sustain a healthy lifestyle, ironically enough, there are a lot of harmful cookware pieces out there. Yeah, cookware may seem like an odd place to start when trying to live a healthier lifestyle or feel like a very first world, adulting problem, but hey, if you can make the small step of changing out your cookware to live a better life, then why not? Every little helps after all.
Take steps towards healthy cookware so your pots and pans options are less harmful to people but more practical. Have you ever gone to pick up the saucepan and realized that the handle is 30000 degrees? Ok, so that might be a bit of an exaggeration, but this problem is definitely relatable. A lot of modern cookware has heat-resistant handles so you don’t have to worry about finding a dishtowel to grab it with.
So why is healthy cookware so much better than traditional models?
1. Because Everyone Loves to Feel Fabulous
The world is undeniably health-conscious and people are going crazy over trying to be healthier. Well, you can’t blame them (except for when they judge you for eating that donut). Who wouldn’t want to wake up every day feeling great? Not that everyone wants to be the next Victoria Secret angel or John Cena of course, but to wake up feeling less sluggish is a real solid in my book.
With all the health crazes out there (for those who have tried the Keto diet, how did you do it?), it’s easy to get wrapped in trying to look a certain way. But the important thing to remember is that it’s not all about that (as much as sometimes it feels like it is). Purchasing cookware that will keep you feeling yourself is vital. And more importantly, it isn’t a fad that will be instantly forgotten once a new trend happens. Cookware is one size fits all, baby.
2. Throw Out the Teflon! It’s Time to Make a Change
Created by Roy Plunkett in 1938, non-stick pans were a revelation to anybody who cooks. Although admittedly, there is no convenience like Teflon. Knowing that when it comes to doing the dishes, the pan won’t have food stuck on it ?! #blessed.
However, studies show that Teflon can produce toxic fumes when it’s heated over 572°F. This could result in you getting Polymer Fume Fever (otherwise known as Teflon Fever). Even if you don’t think you will be heating the pan to that (and, honestly, many of you probably won’t be), it’s important to know just in case! What are the alternatives you ask? Nowadays, there are plenty of healthy cookware options (some of which are listed here), created using materials such as marble, steel, and ceramic.
3. It Will Help the Environment! (sort of)
Ok, so it won’t strictly help in saving the planet. But new-age cookware will lessen the impact on the world, simply because of how it’s manufactured. And there’s no denying that everyone wants to try and do what they can to help retain the beauty of Earth, amirite?
For years cookware was created with PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene – phew that’s a big word!), which released a mixture of harmful chemicals into the air. Not only did they emit toxic chemicals that would affect you, but they also caused a significant impact on the environment. Modern cookware, however, is created using new, sustainable materials that aim at lessening the impact by decreasing the amount of oil used to create them. They also can burn at a lower temperature, which helps to preserve energy.
It may seem like a fleeting craze like it’s the next avocado toast or rolled ice cream, but healthy cookware is here to stay and more importantly, here to help. Even though when you’re starting out in your own house (or perhaps you’re at college), you want the cheapest possible option that won’t cost you the world, sometimes cheap isn’t always cheerful! Be a friend of the trends with modern day, top notch, and healthy cookware.
