Mornings are rough, am I right? Evenings can be too. My social media is full of all these boss babes taking amazingly luxurious baths with some exotic bath bomb and I find myself craving that kind of evening, but knowing that I don’t have the time for it.

Who has time to take an hour-long bath while we’re busy leading our everyday lives? Self-care is extremely important, but sometimes it’s hard to find the time. Well, one thing is for sure: you DO make time to shower. Society would be pretty rough on you if you didn’t! So here is a simple DIY recipe to help you make those showers more enjoyable!

Shower fizzies, also known as shower melts, are the perfect addition to any shower to help you wake up for the day or wind down for the night. These shower fizzes are made with very few ingredients but are bursting with essential oils that help you wake up and set your focus or wind down and relax the body. Depending on the oil blend you use will depend on the type of shower atmosphere, you are trying to create!

  • Lavender: calming and relaxing properties that promote peaceful sleep and ease feelings
    of tension
  • Lemon: naturally cleanses the body and aids in digestion with an uplifting, positive
    aroma
  • Peppermint: naturally brings the bodies sense alive, reduces any morning grogginess, and can
be used for an end-of-day headache release.

DoTERRA has a fantastic introductory kit that includes all of these oils.

Choosing the right scent is critical (and fun!) when it comes to these DIY shower fizzies. Fizzies are extremely easy to make and work wonderfully for those who might not have the time to dedicate a long bath to themselves every evening. When all of the ingredients blend together, they make a bit of a steam bath and encompass you in all the wonderful scents. Think of them as a bath bomb for your shower!

SHOWER FIZZIE INGREDIENTS

This makes about six big shower fizzies. If you want to start off slow and test the waters, cut this recipe in half.

HOW TO MAKE SHOWER FIZZIES

  1. Combine the baking soda and arrowroot powder in a bowl.
  2. Add in your essential oils and stir well.
  3. Slowly add the water a tablespoon at a time and stir. I used my hands to really work the water in You might need a little more or less water, depending on the humidity in your area.
  4. Spoon into a silicone mold. Press it down to really pack it in there. If you end up getting the deep ice cube trays I recommend packing it in halfway. If they aren’t packed SUPER TIGHT, they can get rather crumbly.
  5. Let them dry for at least 24 hours (more if you live in a humid climate).
  6. Carefully take the shower fizzies out of the mold and make sure they are completely dry. Then
store in a mason jar or other container with a lid.

USING THE SHOWER FIZZIE

Put one in the bottom of your shower, away from where the water will hit it directly (corners work well). The water will melt it, and it will slowly release the essential oils for a full-on aromatherapy shower.

DIY TIP: Place on top of aluminum foil wrapping piece because if you don’t use the whole fizzie in one shower you can wrap it up and save the leftovers for next time!

Citric Acid vs. Arrowroot Powder

You can make these shower fizzes with citric acid. This might reduce the amount of crumbling; however, I personally felt like my skin dried out when I used citric acid as the ingredient. I made the switch to arrowroot powder to avoid this. I live in Las Vegas and my skin can get dry enough as it is!

Relax before bed or wake up in the morning with these DIY shower fizzies. They are simple and fun to make, and the essential oils can promote healthy sleep and/or daily wakefulness.
